Former Fenerbahce winger and coach Rıdvan Dilmen has made a bold claim about Álvaro Morata, when comparing the new Galatasaray signing with Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.football reports.
Dilmen, a former Turkey international, argues that the Spanish striker is on the same level as Harry Kane and Karim Benzema.
Morata joined Galatasaray on loan from AC Milan in the winter transfer window, uniting with Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, who has been instrumental for the Turkish club since his loan move in the summer.
Osimhen has impressed with his prolific goal-scoring, netting 17 times and registering five assists in 21 appearances across all competitions.
However, Dilmen believes Morata is the superior forward, particularly in terms of finishing ability. Speaking on HT Spor, via Habersarikirmizi, the Turkish pundit compared the Spaniard’s qualities to some of the game’s elite strikers.
“Morata is a player on par with Harry Kane and Benzema. We are talking about a player who won the European Championship and the Champions League with the national team,” Dilmen said.
The former coach then made a direct comparison to Osimhen, asserting that Morata’s finishing is significantly better. Dilmen also praised Morata’s all-around game, highlighting his ability to link up play more effectively than both Osimhen and Michy Batshuayi.
“If Victor Osimhen scores 5, Álvaro Morata scores 10. It was a big surprise for me. Don’t judge Morata only by the goals he scores.
“Michy Batshuayi and Victor Osimhen could not make those passes that would come from the midfield and disrupt the balance of the defenders, but Morata can do it. Galatasaray will probably return to the 3-4-1-2 system with Morata.”
Galatasaray remain on course to retain the Super Lig title as the reigning champions sit three points ahead of closest rivals Fenerbahçe, with José Mourinho’s men having played one more game than the Lions.
