Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané is reportedly set to leave the German champions as a free agent at the end of the season, and his next destination could be Spain rather than England, Soccernet.football reports.
Despite being on the radar of Premier League powerhouses Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United, Sané is said to be prioritising a move to Barcelona.
Sané’s contract with Bayern expires this summer, and all indications point to the 28-year-old seeking a fresh challenge after five seasons in Bavaria.
According to sources, the German international is keen on donning the Blaugrana shirt, even as Premier League clubs remain interested. Liverpool, in particular, are reportedly in a strong position to sign him, with CaughtOffside claiming they lead the English pack.
However, the same reports suggest Sané’s heart is set on a transfer to Barcelona.
His desire to join the Catalans stems partly from his past success under Barça’s current manager, Xavi Hernández. Sané enjoyed a prolific season under Xavi when the latter was assistant coach at Bayern, tallying 10 goals and 12 assists across 44 appearances.
The winger’s preference for Barcelona over a Premier League return could also reflect his eagerness to experience La Liga, a competition he has yet to play in. Although offers have emerged from Serie A and Saudi Arabia, Sané reportedly remains focused on the prospect of playing for the Catalans.
Barcelona, in turn, would benefit from Sané’s services without incurring a transfer fee. The club is actively searching for a winger who can make a significant impact, and Sané’s versatility and experience fit the profile perfectly.
Sané, who began his professional career at Schalke 04 in 2014, made a £37 million move to Manchester City in 2016.
During his time in England, he won the Premier League and the EFL Cup, while also earning the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2017-18. On the international stage, he has represented Germany since 2015, featuring in their UEFA Euro 2016 campaign.
