Per Elpespunte, Sevilla forward Kelechi Iheanacho has turned down offers from clubs in Greece, England’s Championship, and Major League Soccer as he weighs up his next move before the transfer window closes, Soccernet.football understands.
The Nigerian striker, who has struggled for form since arriving in Spain, is now considering an offer from French side Olympique de Marseille, according to Match Afrique.
Sevilla, eager to offload Iheanacho, have received several bids and expect the 28-year-old to make a decision in the coming days.
The club’s sporting director, Víctor Orta, confirmed that discussions are ongoing, with a six-month loan move looking the most likely outcome.
“We have received some offers at the club that we have passed on to him, and he is evaluating what would be his best option. There is still a week left. I think that the three positions could be close, and it is a matter of the player choosing his best option,” Orta stated.
Iheanacho, who signed a three-year deal with Sevilla last summer after leaving Leicester City, has failed to make an impact at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. His lack of goals and inconsistent performances have seen him fall out of favour, and the recent arrival of fellow Nigerian forward Akor Adams from Montpellier has further limited his chances.
Despite his struggles, the former Manchester City striker still holds a strong reputation in European football. Panathinaikos were among the clubs keen on securing his services, but Iheanacho rejected their approach. He also dismissed interest from Championship sides and MLS clubs, preferring a move to a top European league.
Marseille, currently second in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain, are pushing to strengthen their attacking options as they chase Champions League qualification.
Under Roberto De Zerbi, the French giants have impressed in the league but lack a prolific centre-forward. Iheanacho’s experience and ability to link up play could provide a much-needed boost as they enter the crucial stage of the season.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, all signs point to a move to France for Iheanacho.
If negotiations with Marseille progress smoothly, the Nigerian international could soon be heading to the Stade Vélodrome to revive his career in Ligue 1.
