Leicester City under-18s winger Laolu Omobolaji has caught the attention of Italian Serie A side Lecce, who have now approached the Foxes in a bid to lure the youngster away from England, Soccernet.football reports.
Omobolaji, who joined Leicester City from Crystal Palace in February 2023, has been outstanding for the Foxes’ under-18s outfit and the Premier League club are reportedly eager to tie the exciting youngster to a new deal as soon as possible.
The 17-year-old winger has bagged an impressive tally of five goals and one assist across eleven appearances for Leicester City’s youth team setup so far this season. His impressive displays have garnered the attention of many European clubs including Lecce, who have now emerged as Omobolaji’s latest suitors.
According to BBC Sports, the Italian club has formally enquired about the availability of the youngster ahead of a potential deal. Lecce are offering the almost irresistible allure of first-team minutes in one of Europe’s top five leagues, potentially complicating matters for Leicester, who seek to renew the winger’s contract.
Omobolaji will have to decide whether to remain at Leicester and continue his development in a familiar environment or take up the opportunity to fast-track his first-team ambitions by joining Lecce. With about a week remaining before the close of the winter window, it will be interesting to see how Omobolaji’s situation unravels.
Born on the 26th of August, 2007 in Islington, London to Nigerian parents, Omobolaji is eligible to represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles at international level. The 17-year-old is also eligible to play for the Three Lions of England as the country of his birth.
