Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to sign Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, as the Premier League giants table a lucrative bid for the promising young left-back, Soccernet.football understands.
However, Manchester United are also in the conversation regarding the future of Dorgu.
Dorgu, who has been in scintillating form for Lecce, has attracted widespread interest from top clubs across Europe following a series of impressive performances in Serie A.
The defender has already made 51 first-team appearances for the Italian club, scoring five goals and registering one assist since joining from Danish outfit FC Nordsjælland in 2023.
Italian sources claim that Lecce has received three official offers for the highly-rated left-back, with Chelsea’s bid reportedly the most substantial, as per Campo.
It is also believed that Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign the 20-year-old Danish international.
Dorgu’s current contract with Lecce runs until the summer of 2029, and his valuation is believed to be around €50 million (approximately £43 million).
Born in Denmark to a Nigerian father and Danish mother, Dorgu’s international career has been a topic of discussion.
Despite his eligibility to represent Nigeria, the youngster has consistently played for Denmark at various youth levels. This year, Dorgu made his senior debut for Denmark in a UEFA Nations League match against Switzerland, marking the occasion with a goal just 42 seconds after coming on as a substitute.
While the Nigeria Football Federation did not actively pursue Dorgu due to their depth at left-back, the player himself has committed to Denmark. The Super Eagles already boast players like Calvin Bassey, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Jamilu Collins in that position, making a switch to Nigeria unlikely.
As the January transfer window approaches, the race for Dorgu’s signature is expected to intensify.
Chelsea’s interest, coupled with their financial muscle, puts them in a strong position, but they could still face competition from other European heavyweights.
