Real Madrid have been urged by club legend Guti to consider signing former defender and captain Sergio Ramos after Eder Militao suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury during Los Blancos’ 4-0 victory over Osasuna, Soccernet.football reports.
The Spanish champions bounced back from their recent disappointing defeats to Barcelona and AC Milan with a convincing victory over Osasuna. A hat-trick from Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham’s first goal of the season gave Real Madrid a well deserved win.
However, the victory came with a setback for manager Carlo Ancelotti as Militao was forced off after just 30 minutes due to an ACL injury (his second in 15 months) which had previously sidelined him for most of the 2023/2024 season.
Madrid’s defensive options remain limited, with David Alaba still recovering from a similar injury. In Militao’s absence, 21-year-old Raul Asencio stepped in, while Jesus Vallejo remained on the bench.
According to 90Mins, Guti believes the 38-year-old, who is currently a free agent after leaving Sevilla in the summer, can provide sufficient cover for the injured Militao’s absence.
He said: “Look at Ancelotti’s worried face. Militao is a very important player who had just recovered from last year’s injury, who was getting back to his best and who is leaving Madrid’s defence in a tight spot. He is joined by Carvajal’s injury. Alaba has had a very long injury.
“You have to go out on the market. Sergio Ramos is without a team. Right-back and centre-back. In this situation, I clearly see him, at zero cost. He comes from playing last year in Sevilla and doing well. A man who has been in the team, who was active last year. Who continues to take care of himself and who can offer those six months.”
