Haaland, who was last season’s Premier League top scorer with 27 goals, is shortlisted for the men’s player of the year, aiming to secure the honor for the second consecutive year.
Meanwhile, James is on the brink of making history in the women’s category, potentially becoming the first player to win both the PFA Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards in the same season.
The men’s shortlist also features Haaland’s City teammates Phil Foden and Rodri, highlighting their dominant season under Pep Guardiola.
Foden, who netted 27 goals and became the youngest player to win six Premier League titles, continues to build on his impressive career. Rodri, fresh from his European Championship victory with Spain, earned his spot through his commanding presence in midfield.
In a notable inclusion, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is recognized after an outstanding debut season, where he led the league with 33 goal involvements.
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, a consistent performer last season, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who played a pivotal role in securing a top-four finish, round out the men’s list.
The women’s shortlist is dominated by Chelsea and Manchester City players. James, who scored 13 goals in 16 games, is joined by Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert and captain Niamh Charles, both recognized for their integral roles in securing the Women’s Super League title.
Manchester City’s Bunny Shaw, the league’s top scorer with 22 goals, and her teammates Lauren Hemp and Yui Hasegawa, complete the list, reflecting their standout performances last season.
The winners will be announced on Tuesday, 20 August.
