The summer transfer window has been challenging for PSG. While coach Luis Enrique and sports advisor Luis Campos quickly set their goals, progress has been slow.
Apart from signing Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov from Krasnodar for around 20 million euros, PSG are yet to finalise any other major deals since the transfer market opened a month ago.
PSG are believed to be working on signing Leny Yoro for central defence and negotiating with Napoli for left winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
In the midfield, they are targeting Désiré Doué and João Neves. An offer will reportedly be sent to Stade Rennais soon for Doué, but negotiations with Benfica for Neves are proving difficult.
According to Foot1, Benfica are demanding the full 120 million euros of Neves’ release clause, even though the 19-year-old midfielder is eager to join the French champions.
Without any significant progress, it is uncertain how long PSG will continue their pursuit of Neves.
Former PSG player Angel Di Maria, who played with the young Portuguese at Benfica last season, is a big fan of the teen wonder.
However, his arrival would be a positive development, according to Angel Di Maria.
“The interview that I would like to read in France Football? João Neves, a boy who has a spectacular future,” said Di Maria.
“He reminds me of Marco Verratti in his way of playing.” Di Maria’s praise highlights the potential of Neves, drawing a parallel with the best years of Verratti at PSG.
