Manchester United are reportedly aiming to sign Benfica’s promising young defender Antonio Silva for less than his £84 million ($108 million) release clause, Soccernet.football understands.
Despite a busy transfer window, which has already brought in Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, the Red Devils are eager to further strengthen their defence.
Antonio Silva, 20, has made a significant impact in the Portuguese league, becoming one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents.
Last season, he made 60 appearances for Benfica and scored five goals, drawing interest from several top clubs, including Chelsea, who had a £52 million ($66.9 million) bid rejected in January.
According to Portuguese outlet OJogo, Manchester United are confident they can negotiate a more favourable deal for Silva. The defender has also established himself in the Portugal national team, earning 13 senior caps and participating in recent major tournaments.
Silva’s skills on the pitch, including a high pass completion rate of 92.2% and strong progressive passing, make him an attractive option for United as they look to solidify their backline.
With three years remaining on his contract at Benfica, Silva’s future is the subject of much speculation. Manchester United remain hopeful that a deal can be reached, allowing the talented defender to move to Old Trafford.
