Manchester United and Villarreal are nearing a deal that could potentially see Carrington product Willy Kambwala swap England for Spain, Soccernet.football understands.
The 19-year-old, who made ten appearances for the Red Devils last season, is now in the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford and has reportedly declined the opportunity to pen a new deal.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano (via his X account), Kambwala is set to leave Manchester United this summer with the Yellow Submarines closing in on a deal that would see the Red Devils receive around €10 Million.
United will also include a buy-back clause in the agreement with Villareal, which will enable them to bring the teenager back to Old Trafford in the future should the need arise.
A move to Villarreal would see Kambwala link up with former Man United centre-back Eric Bailly, who returned to the La Liga side in January following a brief stint with Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig.
Kambwala’s potential exit should perhaps come as no surprise with United looking to thoroughly shake things up at the back following their terrible defensive display in the 2023/2024 season.
The Red Devils have been quite busy in the market so far as talks are advancing with Bayern Munich regarding Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt, who could become one of two new signings.
A bid for Lille’s Leny Yoro, a major target for Real Madrid, has been accepted, while two offers for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite have already been rejected.
United have also extended the contract of veteran defender Johnny Evans whose previous contract expired this summer, further increasing the competition for minutes in Erik Ten Hag’s backline.
United are aiming to raise funds by selling several players this summer to boost their transfer budget with the likes of Casemiro and Antony said to be available for the right fee.
