Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has expressed a desire to join Real Madrid, Soccernet.football understands.
According to reports from Fichajes, Haaland wants to team up with stars Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and Jude Bellingham at the Spanish club.
The timing of Haaland’s potential move is not specified, but the summer of 2025 is considered likely. This coincides with the end of Pep Guardiola’s contract at Manchester City, which is not expected to be extended.
Haaland, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has scored 90 goals in 98 games over his two seasons at the club. Despite his impressive record, it is widely believed that Haaland will not remain at the Etihad Stadium for the long term.
Earlier this year, Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, hinted at his ambitions.
“There is the Premier League, and there is Real Madrid, and Real Madrid has something of its own that makes it the dreamland for the players,” Pimenta said. She emphasized the allure of Real Madrid, particularly its success in the Champions League.
Haaland has a release clause in his contract that becomes active in the summer of 2024, valued at €200 million.
This clause applies only to clubs outside the Premier League and decreases each year after activation. A second release clause, set at €175 million, will be activated in the summer of 2025 and will also decrease in subsequent years.
These clauses suggest that a move to Real Madrid could become more feasible in the near future, aligning with Haaland’s reported aspirations and Guardiola’s potential departure from Manchester City.
