Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to leave Olympique Marseille for a new challenge in Saudi Arabia, Soccernet.football reports.
The 35-year-old Gabonese striker, who was a standout for Marseille last season with 17 goals and eight assists, has chosen to join Saudi club Al-Qadsiah. This decision comes despite Marseille’s desire to retain him.
Reports from French media as per VI confirm Aubameyang’s departure.
While Marseille will receive a transfer fee for the striker, the exact amount remains undisclosed. Aubameyang had a contract with the French club until the summer of 2026.
Aubameyang’s move marks a new chapter in his career, likely his last chance to secure a lucrative deal.
His extensive career has seen him play for several top clubs, including AC Milan, Dijon, Lille, AS Monaco, Saint-Étienne, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea, before joining Marseille on a free transfer last year.
Starting his senior career with AC Milan, Aubameyang went on various loan spells in France before joining Saint-Étienne in 2011. There, he won the Coupe de la Ligue and then moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2013.
In Germany, he became the league’s top goalscorer in the 2016–17 season and won the DFB-Pokal.
His transfer to Arsenal in 2018 for £56 million (€60 million) made him the most expensive Gabonese player ever. At Arsenal, he won an FA Cup and finished as the joint-top goalscorer in the 2018–19 season. After leaving Arsenal in 2022, he had brief stints with Barcelona and Chelsea.
Internationally, Aubameyang has been Gabon’s all-time top goalscorer since making his debut in 2009. He played in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2012 Summer Olympics.
In 2016, he was named African Footballer of the Year, becoming the first Gabonese player to win the award.
