Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has received a six-month driving ban and a fine for speeding, Soccernet.football understands.
The 26-year-old was caught driving over the 70mph limit on the M60 in his Rolls-Royce on 12 December 2023.
According to HM Courts and Tribunals Service, Rashford has been fined £1,666, with additional court costs of £120 and a £66 surcharge.
The Sun reported that Rashford appeared before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court via videolink.
Rashford explained to the officer who stopped him that he was speeding because a vehicle had been following him at a set of traffic lights.
The officer advised Rashford to call 999 if he felt he was being followed, but Rashford responded, “It happens all the time and he would be calling us every day.”
Rashford made his return for Manchester United in a friendly match against Rosenborg in Norway on Monday. This was his first game since United’s FA Cup final win against Manchester City in May.
Rashford had missed out on England’s Euro 2024 squad, where the Three Lions reached the final but were defeated 2-1 by Spain.
Erik ten Hag’s side is set to play Rangers in Edinburgh on Saturday, with Rashford expected to feature again.
The forward is eager to regain his form after a disappointing season, where he scored just seven Premier League goals in 33 appearances, a significant drop from his 17 league goals the previous season.
