The Italian club’s pursuit of the Spanish striker intensified recently, especially after the collapse of their deal for Joshua Zirkzee.
Instead of panicking, Milan calmly reassessed their options, turning their attention to Morata. The club had initially faced delays because manager Paulo Fonseca preferred a striker similar to Olivier Giroud, a profile that Morata fits.
Throughout Euro 2024, Zlatan Ibrahimovic kept in close contact with Morata. The Spanish striker, swayed by the Rossoneri project and Ibrahimovic’s influence, decided to join AC Milan after the tournament.
Reports emerged late last night confirming the deal’s completion. According to Milan News, Morata will undergo his medical in Madrid on Wednesday before taking a holiday.
He has agreed to a four-year contract worth €5 million annually, with an option for a fifth year. Milan will pay €13 million to Atletico Madrid, meeting his release clause.
Morata, who captained Spain to victory in the European Championship, played a crucial role in their 2-1 win against England in the final. His experience and leadership are expected to be valuable assets for Milan in the upcoming seasons.
