Ukraine booked their place at the 2024 European Championships through the playoffs after finishing third in their qualifying group behind England and Italy.
They were level on points with Italy but fell short due to their head-to-head record with the Azzurri. However, they eventually secured qualification with 2-1 victories over Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland in the playoffs.
With the likes of Artem Dovbyk, Viktor Tsyhankov and Andriy Lunin in fine form heading into the competition, Soccernet.football takes a look at seven players who could shine for Ukraine in Germany.
7. Andriy Lunin
The 25-year-old shot-stopper had a sensational season with Real Madrid, playing a vital role for the Spanish champions on their way to winning a record-extending 15th Champions League title.
Lunin will be heading into the tournament full of confidence after enjoying a remarkable campaign and he will be looking to replicate the performances he put in at Madrid for his nation in Germany.
6. Mykhaylo Mudryk
One of Ukraine’s most exciting talents, Mudryk made the headlines when Chelsea splashed a heavy sum to secure his services from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023.
While the 23-year-old winger is yet to live up to the hype that followed his Chelsea move, he has definitely shown glimpses of what he’s capable of on the pitch.
Ukraine head coach Sergiy Rebrov will be hoping the winger can showcase more of his undeniable talent during the tournament.
5. Andriy Yarmolenko
The veteran forward who plies his trade in Ukraine’s domestic league with Dynamo Kyiv, will offer a lot of experience and leadership to the Ukrainian national team in Germany.
As captain of the team, Yarmolenko will certainly have a significant role to play for Ukraine at this year’s tournament. The 34-year-old winger will provide Rebrov’s side with attacking width down the right hand side.
4. Oleksandr Zinchenko
One of Ukraine’s most high profile players, Zinchenko is an indispensable member of the Ukrainian setup and he will definitely play a significant part at the Euros for his nation.
The 27-year-old is capable of playing at left-back or defensive midfield at a very high level. This versatility makes him a very important asset for Rebrov’s side and they will be depending on him for inspiration throughout the tournament.
3. Viktor Tsygankov
Tsygankov enjoyed a fantastic campaign with La Liga side Girona this past campaign. He established himself as one of the most productive wide men as he helped Girona secure Champions League qualification for the first time ever.
The 26-year-old winger will serve as a creative force for Ukraine during the tournament. His tally of eight goals for Girona shows that he is also capable of finding the back of the net and he will surely be looking to score a couple for the team in Germany.
2. Vadyslav Vanat
The 22-year-old center-forward was very impressive for Dynamo Kyiv this past campaign. He registered an incredible 24 goal contributions in 30 matches as Dynamo Kyiv narrowly missed out on winning the Premier Liga.
Vanat may have to play second fiddle to his more experienced compatriot Artem Dovbyk in Germany given the Girona man’s sensational form but we expect the young forward to get some opportunities to shine during the tournament.
1. Artem Dovbyk
Dovbyk enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign with Girona, firing the Catalonia based club to a third place finish in the La Liga with 35 goal contributions across 41 appearances.
Dovbyk will be looking to carry his fine form in front of goal into the 2024 Euros where he will be charged with the responsibility of leading Ukraine’s front line.
Dovbyk’s ability to hold up play and bring his teammates into play will be crucial for Ukraine. Head coach Rebrov will be hoping the center-forward can keep up his levels throughout the tournament.
