Denmark will arrive Germany full of confidence after finishing on top of their qualifying group. The Danes will be looking to carry that form into this year’s tournament as they take aim at a deeper run than their Euro 2020 semi-final finish.
The Danes have now qualified for back to back European Championships for the first time in two decades, a sign of the remarkable progress they have made in recent years.
Soccernet.football takes a look at seven players who could stand out for Denmark at this year’s tournament.
7. Victor Kristiansen
The young Leicester City left-back impressed while on loan at Bologna this past season, with his defensive solidity, speed and willingness to get involved further up the pitch.
Kristiansen could offer extra attacking threat down the left flank for Denmark by making overlapping runs into the final third and whipping accurate deliveries into the opposition box.
The 21-year-old defender will be looking to make his mark in the tournament and establish himself as a key player for the Danes, now and in years to come.
6. Joachim Anderson
Anderson was one of Crystal Palace’s most important players of the 2023/2024 Premier League campaign, starting in every single league game for the Eagles and registering 5 goal involvements.
The 28-year-old defender is widely known for his physicality and aerial ability which makes him both imposing in defense and dangerous in attack from set-piece opportunities.
We expect to see the former Fulham defender play a significant role for the Danes as they look to at least match their Euro 2020 run in this year’s tournament.
5. Andreas Christensen
Christensen had a decent season with Barcelona this past season, featuring regularly as the Catalans salvaged their relatively poor campaign with a second place finish in the La Liga.
The former Chelsea defender is one of the more experienced players in this Denmark squad and he will be looking to play a crucial role for the Danes in Germany.
The 28-year-old defender occasionally played in midfield for Barcelona this past season due to a lack of options caused by injuries. However, we expect to see him deployed at center-back where he is best suited during the tournament.
4. Morten Hjulmand
Hjulmand is a defensive midfielder plying his trade in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon. The 24-year-old is poised to play a vital role in the middle of the park for Denmark.
With his performances for Sporting this past season, Hjulmand displayed great tenacity, ball-winning ability and tactical intelligence, helping the Lisbon based club to win the Liga Portugal title.
We expect Hjulmand to anchor Denmark’s midfield in Germany and provide the team with stability and balance.
3. Christian Eriksen
The Manchester United midfielder will be the heart and soul of Denmark at this year’s tournament. His exceptional vision, passing accuracy, and ability to dictate the tempo of games make him Denmark’s creative fulcrum.
Eriksen, who suffered a cardiac arrest at the 2020 Euros has since bounced back in fine fashion, with an impressive short spell at Brentford earning him a move to Old Trafford where he has won two trophies in his two years at the club.
Denmark will be looking to the experienced 32-year-old for inspiration as they try to go one better than their Euro 2020 semi-final finish.
2. Kasper Dolberg
The 26-year-old striker will be a formidable presence upfront for the Danes thanks to his height and strength on the ball. Dolberg is also technically sound and capable of linking up play effectively.
He will be heading into the Euros with Denmark after a decent campaign in front of goal for Belgian club side RSC Anderlecht where he registered 16 goal contributions in 32 matches.
Dolberg will be looking to draw from his experience in previous International tournaments like the 2018 World Cup and 2020 European Championships to inspire Denmark at this year’s tournament.
1. Rasmus Hojlund
Hojlund is heading into the Euros off the back of a rollercoaster debut campaign at Manchester United but a taste of victory after United’s FA Cup triumph over local rivals Manchester City should have the striker in high spirits ahead of the tournament.
Despite spending two different spells on the sidelines through injury and getting little to no service upfront when he was available to play, the 21-year-old striker still managed a decent return, recording 16 goals and 2 assists in 43 matches.
If the former Atalanta forward can manage to stay fit throughout Denmark’s Euro 2024 campaign, then we expect to see him play a major part in attack for the Danes in Germany.
