Mbappe confirmed his transfer to Real Madrid this week. Before starting his career in Spain, he aims for success with France at Euro 2024.
At PSG, Mbappe won six Ligue 1 titles, and four Coupes de France, and helped the club reach its first UEFA Champions League final in 2020. He is PSG’s all-time top scorer and ranks third in assists.
Mbappe has been named Ligue 1 Player of the Year five times and has been the league’s top scorer for six seasons.
France are among the favourites for Euro 2024, with Mbappe expected to play a key role as captain and leading player under Didier Deschamps.
Despite his achievements, former Portsmouth manager Redknapp feels Mbappe falls short compared to Messi and Ronaldo. Speaking to BetVictor, Redknapp said he would prefer to back an England player for Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024.
“Kylian Mbappe is a real talent but when it comes to the Player of the Tournament, I’d rather side with one of the England players,” Redknapp said.
“Mbappe is hot and cold. He can be the best player on the pitch in one game then you might not see anything of him in the next.
“He is a great player but I still wouldn’t put him in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He is miles away from being what those two have been for the last 15 years.
“I can see why he’s favourite for the Player of the Tournament award, but I’d rather be backing one of the England players like Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Phil Foden.”
Mbappe finished third in the 2023 Ballon d’Or and was runner-up for the 2022 The Best FIFA Men’s Player award. He played key roles in France’s 2018 World Cup win and their 2022 runner-up finish, as well as their UEFA Nations League victory in 2020-21.
