The victory, with goals from Cole Palmer – his first in international football for the Three Lions – Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Harry Kane, boosts England’s preparations for Euro 2024.
Cole Palmer opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but Southgate noted Palmer’s need to be less precise and quicker with his shots.
Palace playmaker Ebere Eze played 63 minutes, impressing Southgate and enhancing his chances of making the final Euro 2024 squad.
Speaking about Eze and Palmer, Southgate told Channel 4: “Very good. I thought they both played with freedom. Ebe has got lovely movement to go past people in the centre of the pitch, he has power, so really happy with that he did.
“I thought Cole a couple of times was trying to be a bit too precise, trying to get a touch to open up the shot, when maybe he could have got his shot away a bit earlier a couple of times and got a couple himself.”
Palmer’s future role under new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who knows him from their time at Manchester City, will be crucial as the team prepares for next season. England’s final warm-up game before Euro 2024 is against Iceland on Friday.
