Days after the Serie A season wrapped up, Roma shone in front of 56,522 fans at Optus Stadium.
The spotlight was on 37-year-old Giroud as he prepares to join Los Angeles FC, leaving behind a successful career in Europe. Giroud, France’s top scorer with 57 goals in 131 matches, will compete in the Euros this month before retiring from international football.
Giroud, who won the Champions League with Chelsea and Serie A with Milan in 2022, scored in his last league game for Milan, a 3-3 draw with Salernitana.
In the 30th minute against Roma, Giroud nearly scored but hit the post. He struggled against Roma’s defence and was substituted at halftime.
Tommaso Baldanzi opened the scoring for Roma in the 27th minute. Theo Hernandez equalized for Milan with a powerful shot in the 37th minute.
Tammy Abraham restored Roma’s lead just before halftime. In the second half, Angelino made it 3-1, and although Noah Okafor pulled one back for Milan, Paulo Dybala and Sardar Azmoun secured the win for Roma.
This was the only match of the tour, with both teams departing Perth shortly after the game.
