Initial discussions have taken place between Kompany and Bayern, but the extent of progress and how close they are to a decision remains unclear.
Bayern Munich have been searching for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, who left last week after his departure was announced in February.
Tuchel engineered a trophyless campaign for Bayern, with Bayer Leverkusen crowned as Bundesliga champions while Real Madrid knocked the Bavarians out of the Champions League in the semifinals.
Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick have all declined to be Tuchel’s successor.
Efforts to retain Tuchel were unsuccessful, leaving Bayern in need of a new coach.
Kompany has gained a solid reputation at Anderlecht and Burnley, despite Burnley’s relegation this season. The former Belgium international also has Bundesliga experience from his time at Hamburg and speaks German.
If Bayern formally approaches Kompany, it would likely appeal to him. He signed a five-year extension with Burnley in 2023 but did not comment on his future after Burnley’s defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
Kompany has stated he “never speaks about his future,” but the chance to manage one of the world’s top clubs like Bayern would be hard to resist.
