Fenerbahce were the first to express interest in the Portuguese coach, followed by Besiktas. Besiktas’s vice-president Huseyin Yucel confirmed the club’s interest in Mourinho.
Mourinho, 61, has been out of work since being dismissed by Roma in January.
Despite speculation about his future in top European leagues, it is Turkish clubs that are currently pursuing him. Both Fenerbahce and Besiktas are keen to secure his services.
Besiktas recently parted ways with former Portugal coach Fernando Santos due to poor results and appointed Halim Okta as interim manager until the end of the season.
“About a month ago I met José Mourinho in Istanbul and he listened to our offer,” Yucel told TGRT Haber TV, as per BeSoccer.
“He said he would think about it and give us an answer. He responded after a while and said he would like to meet again in Italy next week.
“We [have] met Mourinho’s financial expectations. We are prepared to satisfy his salary demands.
“A salary of €15 million is fake news! It will be a salary of 10 million!
“We will evaluate his hiring with the board of directors. If we reach an agreement with Mourinho, we will recommend that he includes [ex-Besiktas player] Ricardo Quaresma in the [coaching] team.”
Besiktas are currently fifth in the Turkish Super Lig with one match remaining and will face Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final on Thursday.
