Reports from outlets such as El Espanol suggested Xavi might be dismissed following Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Almeria on Thursday. These rumors claim that President Joan Laporta is unhappy with Xavi’s comments made before the match.
Xavi stated in a press conference that Barcelona would “try to compete” with rivals Real Madrid but acknowledged the club’s “difficult economic situation.” He noted that the days of easily acquiring desired players are over, saying, “It doesn’t work like that anymore. We are not in the same conditions as other clubs with better Financial Fair Play. The fans should know. But this doesn’t mean that we won’t try to achieve our goals.”
After the Almeria match, Xavi reiterated his stance, as per Barca Universal, on the club’s financial challenges and commitment to fighting for titles. “The economic situation is not the best, but we are all working very well to improve it. We’ll fight for titles; it doesn’t change anything,” he said.
When asked if he would definitely be Barcelona’s coach next season, Xavi replied, “Totally.” He expressed confidence and excitement about planning for the upcoming season with Sporting Director Deco and President Laporta.
“This situation is not easy or pleasant, but I have to say that this is a very good squad with a great attitude and I think they are demanding of themselves and there is nothing to reproach them for in terms of attitude,” Xavi affirmed.
The future will reveal if Xavi stays at the helm for the 2024/2025 season.
