Como 1907 clinched promotion to Serie A in a nail-biting final match of Italy’s second division, marking their comeback to the top flight after two decades.
Needing to secure a better result than Venezia on matchday 38, Como 1907 could only manage a 1-1 draw at home with Cosenza. However, third-place Venezia lost 2-1 at Spezia to help Como finish second behind Parma, sealing their Serie A return.
Securing second place, Como joins Parma in automatic promotion, leaving Venezia, Cremonese, Catanzaro, Palermo, Sampdoria, and Brescia to battle it out in the playoffs for the remaining Serie A spot.
It is Como’s third promotion in six years and a testament to the hard work and brilliance of the team on and off the pitch.
Como’s revival from bankruptcy is credited to the collective efforts of the Djarum Group.
Former CEO Dennis Wise, coach Osian Roberts, and minor shareholders Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas played pivotal roles, with Fabregas serving as assistant manager during the 2023/24 season.
Under Indonesian ownership since 2019, Como saw Fabregas join as a player in 2022-23, later transitioning to coaching. Fabregas played a crucial role in both the youth sector and the senior team.
Roberts becomes the first Welsh coach to achieve promotion from Serie B to Serie A.
The momentous occasion on Friday night was witnessed by 2006 World Cup finalists Henry and Gianluca Zambrotta, alongside Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, who earlier secured promotion to the English Premier League with the Foxes.
