Bayern Munich had an opportunity to sign the talented young attacker Lamine Yamal, but he chose to stay at Barcelona to build his career, Soccernet.football reports.
Yamal, known for his impressive skills from a young age in Barcelona’s youth ranks, caught the attention of the German club.
According to BILD via Fichajes, Bayern made an offer to the Catalan winger in 2022, but Yamal decided to reject it.
At that time, Yamal was moving from Barcelona’s cadet team to their Juvenil A team. His then-agent, Iván de la Peña, received a promising offer from Bayern, which was attractive both sportingly and financially.
However, Yamal was clear about his dream to debut and make a mark with Barcelona’s first team, and he did not hesitate to turn down Bayern’s proposal.
In 2023, Yamal changed his agent to Jorge Mendes, a decision that reassured Barcelona about his future at the club, given their good relationship with Mendes.
Yamal subsequently renewed his contract with Barcelona until 2026, with a release clause of €1 billion and an option to extend his contract until 2029 once he reaches adulthood next summer.
Despite missing out on Yamal, Bayern Munich still longs for a winger of his quality.
Recently, Uli Hoeness mentioned Yamal while discussing Alphonso Davies, who has been a disappointment for the club due to his refusal to renew his contract and his underwhelming offensive performance. Hoeness expressed a wish for Davies to emulate Yamal’s versatility.
Davies is expected to leave Bayern in 2025, possibly joining Real Madrid, while Bayern continues to admire the rising Barcelona star, even though they have Jamal Musiala, who possesses similar qualities to Yamal.
