Pedri Gonzalez wants to see international teammate Niko Williams at Barcelona next season as the Athletic Bilbao winger has thoroughly impressed for Spain at the 2024 European Championships in Germany, Soccernet.football reports.
Luis de la Fuente’s La Roja face Germany on Friday in the quarter-finals, but regardless of the outcome, Pedri hopes to be playing alongside winger Williams in LaLiga next season.
Williams scored an impressive solo goal in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Georgia, becoming the first player on record at the Euros since 1980 to score, assist, and complete 100% of his passes (46/46) in a game he started.
Yamal, who has also been a pivotal player for La Roja at the Euros, expressed his desire for Nico Williams to join him at Barcelona. He believes that the Spanish player would enhance the team and hopes to share the dressing room with him.
Pedri echoed Yamal’s feelings, telling the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo that Williams’ arrival would be a significant addition for La Blaugrana.
“We don’t talk about it much. It’s a decision that he and Barca have to make,” the midfielder said. “Yes, it’s clear that he would be a spectacular signing.
“We’re already seeing what he’s doing at the Euros. Hopefully he can be with us, but we don’t know yet because he has a contract with Athletic.
“Whatever has to happen, will happen.”
However, Williams has three years left to run on his current contract with Athletic Bilbao where he plays alongside his older brother Inaki and the young winger has previously suggested his future is settled in Bilbao.
“I am very happy in Bilbao and that is all I have to say,” Williams said in an interview last month. “Yes, I am quite clear, in the end, as I have told you, Athletic is my home.”
