The 21-year-old midfielder played a key role in Leverkusen’s historic season, helping the team achieve an unbeaten domestic run and secure a league and cup double.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Real Madrid and Wirtz have a “pact” that will keep him at Leverkusen for another season before moving to Madrid in the summer of 2025. It is also reported that personal terms with the player have been agreed.
Real Madrid recently celebrated their record-extending 15th European Cup win but continue to seek the world’s best talent to strengthen their squad. The club confirmed Kylian Mbappe’s arrival last week and is now looking to secure Wirtz, who has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
The potential signing raises questions about how Wirtz will fit into Real Madrid’s already star-studded attacking lineup, which includes Mbappe, Endrick, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo. One possibility is that Bellingham could move to a deeper midfield role, allowing Wirtz to play in a more advanced position behind the main striker.
In the meantime, Wirtz is focused on Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign, where he hopes to make a significant impact on home soil. This additional season at Leverkusen will provide Wirtz an opportunity to continue his development and contribute to the team’s success.
If the move materializes, Real Madrid will have secured one of Germany’s most promising young talents.
